About the Board

The Newton-Conover City Schools Board of Education meets the Third Monday of Each Month at 6:00 pm in the N. Ashe Avenue Facility.
OVERVIEW

The Newton-Conover City School System is governed by a six-member Board of Education that sets policy and establishes guidelines for school operations.  Board members are elected on a nonpartisan, citywide basis, with three representatives coming from the City of Newton and three from the City of Conover.  The chairman and vice-chairman are elected by the Board.

At Newton-Conover, the board members' decisions affected approximately 3,000 students in eight schools during the school year .  Decisions made by local boards of education affect communities, families, and children.  The children that are in public school classrooms today will be the leaders of tomorrow.  Local Boards of Education literally have the future in their Collective hands.

Members of the board are committed to setting the highest possible standards for the school system and for our students.  The spend many hours reviewing policies, establishing goals, studying issues, attending meetings, and determining budgets.  There are four key roles for a board member:  setting a vision for education in the local community; establishing a structure for everyday operations; developing a comprehensive accountability system for administrators, teachers, and students; and advocating for students and public schools.

The superintendent, appointed by the Board, is responsible for administration of the school system.

Regular monthly board meetings are held at 6:00 p.m. on the third Monday of each month in the Discovery HS/ACT cafeteria.  Work sessions are conducted  on the first Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at the Administrative Offices.  All meetings are announced in advance through the local media, and the public is invited to attend. Persons desiring to address the Board should follow the procedures set forth below.
