At last evening's Board of Education Meeting, the Board approved a calendar for the 2020-21 school year.
The calendar had to be revisited by our board because of the recently passed COVID Recovery ACT (SL 2020-3) by the North Carolina General Assembly.
That law required a calendar that met very specific requirements:
- It had to have 185 days of instruction or 1025 hours
- Had to include 5 remote instruction days
- Had to add 5 additional days of instruction above the 1025 hours
- The student start date had to be August 17
With these considerations, our board adopted the attached calendar. Our school day start and end times will not change for the 2020-21 school year allowing us to bank hours of instruction for inclement weather and other school closings.
The superintendent does have the discretion to move remote learning days as needed for weather-related closings and other closings.
Students now return to school on August 17 as required by the new law.
The start date for teachers is now August 7 and the end date is June 3.
