Discovery High School in Newton-Conover has recently achieved the monumental milestone of becoming one of the few schools to reach the top one percent in the nation, alongside the achievement of being ranked 6th in the State of North Carolina.
The criteria used in ranking schools come from the CCD and include the following: statewide mathematics, reading, and science assessment data, high school graduation rates, and AP exam data.
“I am extremely excited about our rankings, as they are the highest they have ever been and are a tribute to the hard work of the staff and students of DHS,” said Principal Whitener. “I believe it is a testament to the collaborative work of the students and staff, as well as the level of expectations we have for all students.”
With recruitment season approaching, the school is working to assure prospective families of the quality and dedication of the academic program. “I hope that potential students and parents see how focused we are academically and that we will work hard to help students achieve whatever they want,” said Whitener.
This is an outstanding achievement for any school, highlighting the sheer determination and commitment of all staff and students. This is certainly not an achievement attained by many schools, but we’re glad that it’s a title Discovery now holds.
