Help DHS Hit the High Notes
Story by Sam Canipe
A few weeks ago, we covered Mrs. Isaac and the ongoing rehearsals for Mean Girls. However, one important aspect of the production that often goes unnoticed is the financial side of putting on a full-scale musical.
Fundraisers are not uncommon for DHS theater; last year’s fundraiser for Shrek managed to raise all the necessary funds in just two days. This year, however, the results have been slower. A fundraiser for Mean Girls was launched a few weeks ago, but so far it has raised only about 50% of its $2,000 goal.
“I definitely appreciate everyone who has donated so far,” said Mrs. Isaac when asked about the progress. According to her, the funds will primarily go toward costumes, improved set pieces, and the replacement of broken microphones.
When asked why she chooses to run fundraisers in the first place, Mrs. Isaac explained that preparation is key for a successful play. “I do it a couple months before the musical so I can make sure to have the money to purchase costumes, props, and items needed for the musical,” she explained. She added that students and their parents are often the most willing to contribute.
To encourage donations, contributors are offered a free show ticket, and their names are printed in the program. “No amount of money is too small… anything helps,” said Isaac.
