Good afternoon, N-CMS Red Devil Family!
Parents, as you may know, there have been social media posts that have circulated around the surrounding counties and areas referencing violence towards schools. Please speak with your child about not sharing, engaging, or participating in any activities or conversations that reference violence toward others or violence toward schools. Please discourage your child from making threats of violence, referencing fights, weapons, etc, on social media or in conversation at school. Threats will be taken seriously and come with severe consequences. Parents, please help keep our Red Devil family safe and ward off any undue stress by speaking with your child about the appropriateness of their actions and conversations.
On Monday and Tuesday, students will take their beginning-of-the-year diagnostic tests in both Reading and Math. Students will need to bring wired earbuds, have a fully charged Chromebook, get a good night's rest, and eat breakfast to prepare for the assessments.

We have had an excellent start to our fall sports season. All our fall sports teams are undefeated, with two wins each. Our Cross Country team performed excellently at Maiden Middle School last week. All around, we have a lot to be proud of.
This week, on Monday, Cross Country will have a meet at River Bend. On Tuesday, Soccer and Volleyball will play at home against River Bend. On Wednesday, football will play at Mill Creek, and on Thursday, volleyball and soccer will be away at Jacobs Fork.

Weekly Athletics Update
N-CMS Boy's Soccer:
The N-CMS Boy's Soccer team had a fantastic week, going 2-0 by defeating Northview and Mill Creek. Goals were scored by Emir, Marion, Elvin, Andy, and Christian. Liam, the Red Devils' goalkeeper, achieved a shutout on Thursday. The Red Devils will be playing at home against River Bend on September 17 and away at Jacobs Fork on September 19.
N-CMS Cross Country:
The N-CMS Cross Country team had their first meet of the year. The girls' team finished 5th overall, while the boys' team finished 7th. Top finishers for the girls were Evie, Harper, and Yoana. For the boys, top finishers included Isaiah, Reid, and Kavari. The Red Devils will travel to Henry Fork Park for a meet on September 16.
N-CMS Lady Red Devil Volleyball:
The N-CMS Lady Red Devil Volleyball team also went 2-0 this week, defeating Northview by a score of 2-0 and Mill Creek by 2-1. Outstanding play by Elizabeth, Alora, Imani, Sadie, Baylee, and Carson led the team to these victories. The Lady Red Devils will be home against River Bend on September 17 and at Jacobs Fork on September 19.
N-CMS Red Devil Football:
The N-CMS Red Devil Football Team secured a win against Arndt with a score of 24-0. Aureyon contributed with 2 rushing touchdowns, Amos had 1 rushing touchdown, and Jakari added a receiving touchdown thrown by Caleb. Additionally, Latrell made a key interception to help the Red Devils maintain their shutout against Arndt. The team will travel to Bandys High School on September 18 at 6:45 PM to face Mill Creek.
It has been an excellent start to the fall sports season here at N-CMS. We look forward to the continued success of our athletic programs. As always, it's a great day to be a Red Devil!

We hope that you had a great week. Here are your announcements for September 9-13, 2024.
I want to share that N-CMS has MET academic growth standards for the state of NC again this year. This has been three consecutive years, and our school has accomplished this. We are proud of our staff, students, and parents for their dedication to our school and efforts to make this happen.
We are seeking donations for our PBIS store. Students earn tickets based on following our schoolwide positive behavior guidelines, which they can turn in for chances to win prizes. We will accept monetary donations, or you can send in small items, games, stickers, trinkets, posters, hats, etc., that a middle school student may like.
We want to inform you that there are still ongoing issues with the state PowerSchool scheduling system preventing students' EA classes from appearing on the Parent Portal. A ticket with the state has been submitted to correct the error. We are hopeful this will be fixed soon.
This is a reminder: if your child arrives on campus after 7:38 a.m., you must come in and sign your student into school. Dropping your child off and leaving without signing them in is not permissible for safety reasons. A parent must complete the sign-in process for their child to be counted as present. This week, students will begin accruing tardies at school if they arrive late.
Please fill out the free and reduced lunch application found on our district website. This year, we are offering free breakfast and lunch to all students. However, to keep this program going, we need these applications completed to continue qualifying for the program.

Our cross-country team will have a meet on Monday at Maiden Middle School. On Tuesday, volleyball and soccer will be at home to take on Northview Middle School. On Wednesday, our football team will travel to Arndt Middle School. On Thursday, soccer and volleyball teams will play at Mill Creek Middle School. The price of admission to all games is $5. Pets are not allowed at games.

I want to thank our parents, students, and staff for an excellent start to the school year! It has been great having students back in the building. Students have done an excellent job adjusting to schedules, processes, and routines. Parents, you have done a fantastic job with our morning and afternoon car rider line. Again, thank you, and we look forward to a wonderful school year!
This is a reminder that there will be no school on Monday, September 2, 2024, in observance of the Labor Day holiday.
On Thursday, September 5, from 3:30-4:30, we will hold a mini Open House for 7th-grade students impacted by the scheduling issue with the state PowerSchool system. Parents, you will only visit core subject teachers should you take advantage of this opportunity.

On Wednesday, our football team will be in action for a pre-season game against East Burke Middle School. This game will be played at Newton-Conover High School. The game starts at 4:15 p.m. The price of admission is $5.

Attractions is a local coupon book with great savings and deals on just about
everything. Books sell for $25 and have over $3,500 in easy to use savings. One
or two uses easily pays for the book. All coupons are valid now and do not
expire until the end of 2025. We make 50% profit on all sales!

Here are a couple of reminders as we navigate the first week of school.
If your child arrives on campus after 7:38 a.m., you must come in and sign your student into school. Dropping your child off and leaving without signing them in is not permissible due to safety reasons. A parent must complete the sign-in process for their child to be counted as present.
There are no signouts after 2:30 p.m. unless a parent has a doctor's note. Any adjustments on how your child is to get home must also be made prior to 2:30 p.m.
Students will be bringing home this week a copy of our dress code guidelines. Parents, please review this and ensure your child comes to school within our guidelines. Starting next week, students will have to change or call home if there are dress code issues. Thank you for being proactive with this to ensure there is no disruption to your child's day here at school.

We had a great first day of school at N-CMS! Our students did an excellent job navigating the challenges of the first day of school.
This is a reminder that bus routes are still being ironed out across the district. Please be patient with our drivers. It will take this first week to finalize and smooth out routes. Make sure students are at their stops early.
Students who are car riders in the morning need to be ready to exit their vehicles when pulling up to the curb. Also, students should exit their vehicles on the side closest to the curb. This will help keep your child safe when getting out.
Parents, please review the student handbook with your child. Key items to be aware of are the school dress code, the tardy policy, our new policy on perfumes and aerosol sprays, and water bottles. Please reach out to the main office if you have any questions.
Don't forget to sign up for Remind. This is our school-wide communication tool. This is a great way to stay connected to your child's teachers. If you have questions, please reach out to your child's teacher.
This is a reminder that Cross Country tryouts begin tomorrow afternoon from 3-4:30 p.m. Students must have an updated sports physical on file to try out.
