How to Renew Your Educator License

DPI usually opens a renewal application on behalf of all educators whose license is to expire in a given year. This is done usually in April or May of each year. Employees cannot renew their license until this is done.

Before renewing your license, make sure you have enough renewal credits to renew. (See chart below.)

NOTE: CEUs earned for completing or renewing National Board for Professional Teaching Standards certification MUST BE APPLIED WITHIN THE RENEWAL CYCLE IN WHICH THE CERTIFICATION OR RENEWAL IS EARNED. (There is no banking of these credits for the next renewal cycle.)

Log in to licensure here, and follow instructions in the system for renewing your license and pay your $35 renewal fee by credit card. (NOTE: Human resources cannot reset passwords or help with access to the licensure website. You can call 919-716-1800 and select option 3 for any password reset requests or other issues with your online licensure account.)
